about
It is a lifelong tension and pursuit in my life to find equilibrium between the storms without and the storm within. Others have consistently told me throughout my life that I am a rock - steady, unmoving, calm, and confident in the face of difficult circumstances.
I don’t feel that.
I often feel shaken, uncertain, small.
A storm is one of the closest analogs we have to the enormity of God. To me, it serves as a surrogate for the awe, force, might, and majesty of the One who made me. A storm is capable of reminding me that the hands that formed the very universe are the same hands that crafted me before I was born.
It is a humble and fearful thing.
The dichotomy of this perspective is vital to making it through life. I firmly believe that the way I interface with the world is due in large part to the way I see God, and myself in relation to Him.
If my presence seems big, it is because I know that I am small, and because I know the one whose wings span the universe.
If I am firm, it is because I know that I am fragile, and because I know the one who could and has pieced together the shattered parts of me over and over again.
If I am confident, it is because I am naturally given to despair, and because I know the one who is deliverance embodied and hope incarnate.
If I find a home in the storm, it is because I know that the voice who spoke the universe into existence is the same voice that calls me by name.
